Summer in Nauvoo

This Nauvoo home was purchased in 1954 by Heber C. Kimball’s great grandson, Dr. Leroy Kimball. He originally purchased the home to use as a summer home, but discovered that visitors to Nauvoo were interested in touring the home. The popularity of these tours eventually resulted in Dr. Kimball forming Nauvoo Restoration, Incorporated.
Heber C. Kimball’s home is the only structure in Nauvoo that is historically inaccurate; the porch and portico depicted in Al’s work would have been turn-of-the-century additions. Al has painted the home many times over the years, always incorporating the porch and portico as a sign of respect to his friend, Dr. Kimball.
