View from Montrose

Montrose is situated across the Mississippi River from Nauvoo and is the site where Joseph and Hyrum Smith escaped a mob in June of 1844. Emma sent word that a posse had come for them that morning warning that the governor had promised to place troops in Nauvoo until the brothers submitted to arrest. From Montrose, Joseph and Hyrum returned and made their journey to Carthage Jail to surrender.
