Red Brick Store

Joseph Smith’s Red Brick Store in Nauvoo served as both a social and spiritual center for early members of the Church; the lower level held a dry goods store, while the upper level contained a meeting hall and Joseph’s personal office. The brethren of the Church met there regularly to be instructed by Joseph, and it was there that the first endowment ordinances were administered. The Red Brick Store was also the site of the organization of the Relief Society.
